F.B.I. agents in Italy and abroad have told The Associated Press that Vela, the Colombian striker who joined Milan from Roma in 2012, has been bought by Italian club Fiorentina for €12 million ($15.5 million).
Vela has a year left on his contract and has been in the Italian first division since 2014.
He scored 18 goals in 34 appearances this season, including eight in eight games in the Champions League.
In a statement, Milan president Massimo Moratti said, “I would like to thank Carlos for his contribution to the club during the years he was with us and the work he has done in all fields.
The club would like him to continue his career here in Italy.
We wish him all the best.”
Vela joined Milan in 2013 from Roma for €5.7 million ($7.4 million) and was a regular in the team’s attack.
His contract expired in 2017.
